[Lower Canthoplasty] What Effect Does Lateral & Lower Canthoplasty Have?

2025-12-01

Lateral and lower canthoplasty is a term that refers to lateral canthoplasty + lower canthoplasty performed together. In most cases, the two need to be done together for a clear effect, so they are performed as a package under names such as 'lateral-lower canthoplasty' or 'dual canthoplasty.'

Double eyelid surgery is done to create a double eyelid, so let me explain what effect lateral and lower canthoplasty is done for.

Lateral canthoplasty, as the name suggests, extends the length of the eye outward.

Lower canthoplasty enlarges the eye downward — since the outer part usually looks heavy, it lowers the outer part so that the eye looks bigger.

By doing these two surgeries together, the eye becomes longer horizontally and the outer corner tilts down slightly, and the white of the eye outside the dark pupil becomes wider, so the eyes look more open and refreshing.

As shown in the picture, the surgery is effective for cases where the outer corner of the eye (lateral canthus) sits high, giving a sharp impression, or where the outer (rear) white of the eye is covered, making the eyes look heavy.

The pictures show the kind of change this surgery can make.

If you compare the before and after, you will feel the difference even more.
